Following the suggestion made at the A.G.M. a meeting of LADY MEMBERS was
convened and a Committee formed under the chairmanship of Mrs G.W.Liddle with
Miss P.Toomey as Secretary, Mrs Wetherall Treasurer, who organised Whist Drives,
Dart Competitions, Garden Fetes on the 20th June and 19th July.
DONATIONS:
National Safety First Assn; one guinea.
Treloar Cripples Hospital - 10/6d.
Earl Haig Poppy Day Fund - £1.14.6d.
C.P.K.E. - 10/0d.
In connection with the Poppy Day Appeal the Hon.Sec. acted as Transport Officer
and members played an active part. in same.
HOSPITAL INSURANCE FUND: No claim had been made. A reserve fund in
respect of this amounted to £109.15.9d.
CHILDREN IN THE CLUB: It was agreed that children should only be admitted into
the Lounge and a notice to that effect be placed on the Club Notice Board and the
Steward advised accordingly.
When the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced Increases in the Horsepower Tax
letters of protest were addressed to local M.P's and Alfred Edwards, M.P. for
Middlesbrough East paid a visit to the Club and discussed the subject with members.
NEW LINO was laid on the BILLIARD ROOM FLOOR. And Lighting was improved.
Decision was made in November to make MONDAY NIGHT Trial Riding members
Club Night.
Criticism voiced at the QUALITY OF THE BEER which had been received since the
War. Suggested that the Executive place a trial order with another firm.
Decided to purchase a second hand NATIONAL CASH REGISTER for the sum of
11 guineas.
The criticism of the STEWARD made at the A.G.M. and a resolution that the
Committee take more drastic action in the matter of these complaints having been
carried, the Steward subsequently resigned and Mr & Mrs C.Scarr were appointed to
the post at a salary of £5 per week,
The resignation of Mrs Turner was accepted.
Miss S.Header son was engaged as a BAR ASSISTANT.
SOCIAL
SOCIAL RUNS were held in May and June for the purpose of exploring new ground
for the Scott Trial. A Potholing expedition on 25th June organised by the Captain
with the Stockton and South Shields Motor Clubs and to Whorlton on 6th August.
The section of the Club known as DER BEEGENSTEINEBS went Rock Climbing in
the Lake District and the Isle of Skye.
GOLF SECTION. Continued to flourish. Many outings were arranged and matches
for the three trophies, Ryan, Foster and Weastell, were played.
