reason for this proposal could be traced to two lady members who played billiards.
The Hon.Sec. urged the meeting to handle the matter very carefully pointing out that
we were at the moment on a crest of the wave and that if we could hold the position
for a little longer we would be able to go ahead with alterations which would solve
many of our difficulties. On the proposal being put to the vote, 6 voted for and 5
against. The motion was declared lost.
Clubhouse Improvements. A new Central Heating Boiler was fitted. The high wall on
the Clarendon Road side of the Club having become unsafe, was demolished and a
discussion took place respecting the use of the land in front of the Club as a Car
Park.
Five separate plans for extensions were submitted varying from £1,800 to £5,000.
The No.1 plan was approved, the cost not to exceed £1,000.
A Club Badge was exchanged with the Automobile Assn. of Bengal.
A Wireless Receiver was presented by Mr G.Bensley.
C.Matson was appointed as a Waiter.
Unemployment Insurance for Domestic Servants became compulsory. The Club's
contribution in respect of Males was 9d and Females 6d.
Donations to Charity.
National Safety First Assn.Coming of Age - one guinea.
Treloar Cripples Hospital - 10/6d.
C.P.E.E. - 10/6d.
Mayor's Hospital Saturday Fund - one guinea.
Proposals to form the Club into a Limited Company were not proceeded with but a
recommendation that members be approached immediately for a loan in £1 units
with an average of 2½ units per head of membership was suggested, the loan to be
repaid annually of at least £100 by ballot.
Air Raid Precautions. It was reported that when the matter of A.R.P. was first brought
forward the Club were approached and agreed to provide Despatch Riders. Since
then many original ideas had been scrapped and the assistance of members in this
direction was not now required. Several of the officials, Committee and members
undertook duty as Special Constables and were trained in anti-gas measures and
rendered valuable assistance in connection with the distribution and fitting of Gas
Masks. Prior to Neville Chamberlain going to meet Hitler in Munich as recorded
previously.
An official Club Handbook, was produced.
Committee were represented on the Council for the Preservation of Rural England
and permission was given to the Council to broadcast on Shepherds Hill and the
Redcar event, (see previous announcement).
