CRICKET SECTION. 11 matches were played - 7 were won and 1 drawn. High
spots of the play were: Bowling - L.Raby, 5 wickets for 13 at Cargo Fleet, H.Hewlett,
4 for 15 versus Electricity Works and S.Mudd, 8 for 41 at Redcar. Batting: Bert
Robson, 54 not out, H.Wilson, 47, Phil Dawson 47 and B.Birkett 39.
On Sunday, 19th Nov. a return visit of the SPANISH REFUGEE CHILDREN was
organised.
PRIZE PRESENTATION took place at a Smoking Concert on 23rd Nov. During the
course of same an unfortunate incident occurred between a member and one of the
Concert Party following which the member was suspended for 28 days and an
apology forwarded to the Concert Party and Miss K.Ryan who had been asked to
present the prizes.
ANNUAL BALL. War broke out - arrangements were cancelled but a Dance was held
in the Grand Hotel from 7 to 11 p.m. and a light Supper provided. 180 members and
friends attended and a very pleasant evening was spent, there being a unanimous
demand for a repeat event. M.C's appointed were W.Oliver, H.Wilson and
G.Hickson.
The annual FOOTBALL MATCH against the High School Old Boys on Boxing Day
was won by the Old Boys. A collection of 10/6d was made and handed to Captain
Jack.
NEW MEMBERS; 43 including J.Bradley, V.D.Wieland, Mr & Mrs D.Williams,
T.Lightfoot, R.W. Godson plus 13 Associate Members.
Hon.Members elected: J.H.Simmonds, F.W.Dixon, S.Gjertson, C.J.Halliman,
S.Jackson.
TRIALS
5 RELIABILITY TRIALS were run. Winners of Trophies were-
Northern Echo Cup - tie between E.W.Kendrew and G.R.Codling.
Liddle Memorial Cup - J.W.Smirthwaite. Graves Cup - A.H.Rutherford.
Gilchrist Bowl - E.W.Kendrew, Price Cup - A.H.Rutherford.
Gjers Cup - A.Bailey A.W.Foster Trophy - R.Markham.
SPEED HILL CLIMB, was held on Whit.Monday at Shepherds Hill, Swainby. No
records were broken. The winners of the various events were:- E.W.Kendrew,
W.Walker, J.I.Goudie, D.O. Paterson, G.E.Codling.
The SALTBUBN SPEED TRIALS were held at the Coatham end of Redcar on
Saturday, 24th June, when the Club's usual luck in the matter of weather deserted
them. There was a strong wind blowing the whole of the time. An entry of 30 was
received for the Cycle classes and 5 for the Car. Winners of the principle events
were:-
20-mile Championship up to 250 cc. - D.Parkinson, 350 co. G.G.Bensley,
600 c.c. and Unlimited - D.Parkinson.
Club members Handicap for the G.H..Cup - J.M.Simpson. G.H.Blackburn Cup
20-miles Handicap Solo, motorcycles - W.Billington.
