The weekly Whist Drive & Dance continued its popularity and a number of Solo
Whist Drives were run.
Bridge Drives organised by Mrs Liddle resulted In a donation of £5.13.6d to Club
Funds.
The Contract Bridge section organised by Mr W.Ethell held a number of meetings.
The Ford Film and the Esso Film were screened on 18th March and 15th Sept.
respectively and two visits were received from the Nalgo on 11th Feb. and 4th
March.
The Prize Distribution & Supper was held in the Club on 2nd December and ladies
were invited. Guests included T.McEwan who came to collect his Saltburn awards,
Mr & Mrs A.E.Morris of the Yorkshire Centre and A.W.Nicholls and G.E.Blakeway of
the Stockton Club.
A Snooker Handicap was organised, the winner being H.V.Barker, runner-up
J.Seaman.
On Tuesday, 28th December nearly 70 poor children were entertained with Tea and
Gifts off the Christmas Tree, new pennies, oranges, apples, sweets and ice-cream.
The effort was made possible by the generosity of many members.
The Annual Ball was held in Dormans Hall on Wednesday, 29th December attended
by some 340 guests. The Blue Rhythm Boys Orchestra of 7 players played for
Dancing and catering was by R.Spark & Sons and Winterschladen & Co. Price of
Tickets was 5/0d.
Entertainment in the Clubhouse ended with the Annual New Years Eve Party for
which an extension of the permitted hours was obtained.
GOLF SECTION. Reported a most successful season, membership of the Section
amounted to 50. To commence the Season a Supper & Social Evening was held at
Newton-under-Roseberry attended by about 30 members. Section received
permission to erect a board in the Club giving the names of the winners of the
Section's principal events. Two guineas was donated to the North Riding Infirmary.
The year's outdoor activities wound up with the usual Boxing Day Football Match
between High School Old Boys and the Motor Club - result being a draw.
TRIALS
Five Reliability Trials were run, the first being a Propaganda Trial run in 2 sections
for those who had never previously ridden in a Trial and for those who had. The
winner of the former was A.W.Zealand - G.M.Liddle Memorial Cup. A tie between
R.L.Percy and E.G.Pipe for the other section who jointly held the J.H.Graves Cup.
Ryan Cup Trial on June 9th was won by H.W.Reading.
On Sept.28th a semi-Sporting Trial for the Gilchrist Bowl was won by E.R.Hall.
The Captain (J.Gash) issued a Challenge to the Stockton Club and the event was
held on 7
th
November. Middlesbrough Club ran out the winners by 918 pts. against
