THE ANNUAL BALL was held in the Town Hall on Friday, Dec.13th and attended by
362 guests. Joe Hurst's Band of 10 players was booked for the sum of £14 and
Dance Music was relayed to the Crypt by loudspeaker. Supper cost 2/6d per head.
Admission tickets were 6/6d. Decorations were in the hands of George Buck, the
Town Hall Manager. An Oyster Bar was provided for the Committee and 10/0d worth
of Guinness was also supplied.Two attendants were employed to look after the
parking of cars. The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor A. and Mrs Elstrop, attended.

SALTBUBN SPEED TRIALS.
The A.C.U. advised that petrol and oil companies would not attend 1-day meetings. It
having been suggested that the event should be run on August Bank Holiday
Monday, the Saltburn U.D.C. did not agree and asked that it still be run on a
Saturday in July. Council requested to receive a deputation from the Club. Council
agreed to a deputation on the 27th March at 8-50 p.m. Following a meeting with the
Saltburn U.D.C. the date of Saturday, August 10th fixed for the event.
A Public Address system was hired at a cost of 5 guineas and a Pluvious Policy to
cover a 6-hour period was obtained and it was reported that the income on the day
amounted to £153.
Events were - CARS: 10-mile Handicap Race, 3 x 1-mile races and 3 x 4-mile races.
M/CYCLES: 3 x 1-mile races, 3 x 4-mile races, 3 x 20-mile Yorkshire Championship
Races, 1 x 20-mile Handicap Race.
The Saltburn Council, having been unable to receive a deputation to discuss facilities
for a paying gate, admission to the Enclosure increased to 1/0d including tax.
WINNERS OF EVENT:
20-mile Championship up to 250 c.c. - D.Parkinson, speed 50.31 m.p.h.
" up to 350 c.c. - J.B.Moss, speed 63.30 m.p.h.
" up to 600 c.c. - J.K.Swanston, " 66.67 m.p.h.
" unlimited - J.K.Swanston, speed 67.35 m.p.h.
20-mile handicap for motorcycles - C.F.Brett, 59.49 m.p.h.
10-mile " cars - H.Hodgson, 68.47 m.p.h.
Profit on the Event amounted to approx. £20.
A Film of the Event was shown at the Gaumont Cinema on Friday and Saturday,
17th & l8th August
SHEPHERDS HILL CLIMB was held on Whit.Monday, June l6th.
Speed Hill Climb for Cars and motorcycles and circuit racing for motorcycles.
Considerable crowd paid for admission, profit being approx. £30.
Fastest time of Day - Cars - G.M.Kreedy, PRICE CUP.
Motorcycles ~ T.E.Flintoff - J.H.GEAVES CUP.
Miss Walker, the owner, was not agreeable to events being run on a Sunday.
INSURANCE. Agreed to support the Scheme outlined by Messrs Muir Beddall for a
compulsory 3

Party Insurance in competitions in which the speed element was the
governing factor.
