A.G.M. was held on the 12th Feb. The President John Gjers occupied the Chair and
about 60 members attended, An alteration to rules excluding the Hon.Solicitor from
a seat on the Committee and limiting the number of V/Presidents to 12 was carried.
Secretaries were re-elected, A.V. Buttress Hon.Gen.Sec: J.F.Dixon,
Hon.Financial Sec., T.A.Hanson, Hon.Assis.Sec., F.G.Barker, Hon.Press Sec.
Capt - J.Gash, V/Capt - C.T.Barker. Auditor - J.H. Simmonds.
Committee - Elected W.Tattersall, K.N.Gray, C.L.Hodgson, H.F.Houghton,
C.E.Hodgso for 2 years. G.H.Allen to sit for one year.
At a subsequent Committee meeting T.Ainsley was elected Chairman and
W.Tattersall V/Chairman.
The Chairman was instructed to initial each sheet in the loose-leaf Minute Book now
in use.
Decided not to elect a Clubhouse Committee but the Trials Subcommittee was
continued and it was agreed in future that the Committee would elect new members
by ballot and that an applicant be declared elected if two-thirds of those present
voted in favour.
HOSPITAL INSURANCE SCHEME. Reported that since the inception of same 6
years ago the Club had paid in premiums £99.10.5d and £55.4.6d had been received
in claims, the balance of premiums over claims being £46.5.9d and a suggestion that
the Club should finance the scheme themselves was not proceeded with.
Subsequently this was agreed.
SAFETY FIRST COUNCIL. Decided to forward a sun of one guinea to support an
intensive national campaign in an endeavour to prevent road accidents, it being
common knowledge that if this method of reducing road accidents failed, legislation
having far-reaching effects would be brought into being.
Attention was drawn to the SEVERE PENALTIES now being inflicted upon anyone
now driving a car under the influence of drink and it was agreed that any
photographs taken should not show any bottles or glasses of liquid refreshment.
FRUIT MACHINES. The Chief of Police, having made representations respecting
these which were illegal, they were removed. Loss of revenue was noted with
regret. A Pin Machine was installed in the place of the Fruit Machine and this
showed a profit of £48.5.3d for the year.
A Sub-Committee was appointed to consider Registering the Club under the
Industrial & Provident Society Act. No action was taken.
EXTENSION OF PERMITTED HOURS. The Cleveland branch of the Workmens
Club & Union Ltd. announced that they were taking steps to apply to the Licensing
Justices for extension of the permitted hours on weekdays from 10 pm. to 10-50 pm.
There were 22 clubs at the meeting and it had been unanimously agreed to go
forward with the application.
