MEMBERSHIP: The application for membership from a member of a RELIGIOUS
FRATERNITY was refused and it was decided that no further applications from

A request signed by 45 members for an extraordinary general meeting to
discuss this was received. It was held on Monday, Dec.l8th. The Committee
agreed a statement of the position to be read at this meeting. J.Parsons was in the
Chair and over 150 members were present. It was proposed and seconded that the
action of the Committee be approved. An amendment was proposed and seconded
that a vote of censure be passed on the Committee for their action.
After a long discussion it was finally agreed that the members should by ballot say
Yes or No as to whether any more members of that sect should be accepted for
membership. The Club
Auditor J.H.Simmonds, together with a representative of the Sect concerned and
T.A.Hanson representing the Club, were appointed as Scrutineers. The result of the
ballot was declared as follows;- N0 - 106; YES - 49.
The Chairman congratulated all the Speakers on the way they had avoided
personalities.
This matter having received unprecedented publicity it was decided to issue a
statement on behalf of the Club for publication. Subsequently the President, John
Gjers, resigned over
the issue.

representations - no proceedings were taken.
