A meeting of members was convened to form a Committee to promote BILLIARD &
SNOOKER competitions and an effort to be made to double the membership in
1935.
DONATIONS TO CHARITY. Collection Box placed in the Club on behalf of the
Y.M.C.A. The Mayor's Appeal for the Unemployed Holiday Fund, 10/6d. Treloa
Hospital 10/6d and an Appeal from the Mayor for assistance for the Royal Wedding
Gift National Fund, was made.
PURCHASE OF PREMISES. An offer was made to Messrs Gjers Mills & Co. of
£1,450 for the premises and contents. The owners agreed to sell for £1,550. An
Extraordinary General Meeting was held on l4th June when it was agreed that the
premises in Clarendon Road including the fixtures, furnishings and utensils therein
be purchased for the sum of £1,500.
The Club not being a corporate body the following Trustees were appointed:-
A.Blackburn, J.Gilchrist, E.H,Richardson and A.J.Young, with instructions to charge
same for the sum of £1,200 and to sell the £300 worth of War Stock.
It was reported that the transaction had been completed on l4th November.
The question of limiting members' liability was again discussed.
THE EXCLUSION OF MEMBERS OF A RELIGIOUS FRATERNITY. Was not
allowed to die down. The President John Gjers tendered his resignation due to the
difference of opinion between himself and the Committee with respect to same and
he was asked to reconsider this. He replied that he would continue until the A.G.M.
Numerous other letters were received on the subject and the Hon.Sect. had a long
conversation with the Minister of the Fraternity concerned.
In March the President John Gjers in a letter which was signed by 55 members
called for an Extraordinary General Meeting for this matter to be reconsidered. It
was decided to write to all those signing the letter pointing out that the subject had
been decisively settled in the December Extraordinary Meeting. The matter of an
Extraordinary General Meeting was again raised in May and refused.
The resignations of A. Thompson, V/Chairman and all the members of the Fraternity
concerned were tendered and accepted with regret.
MISS C.STODDART, the TYPIST, resigned on her marriage and a Wedding Present
of a Workbox was given to her. The vacant position was advertised and a total of 38
applications was received. Miss Stott was engaged as the new Typist. She
resigned after 2 months and Miss V.Dearlove was then appointed.
GOLF SECTION. Went from strength to strength. At the second Annual Meeting 31
members were reported. W.J.Curry was elected Secretary, D.Snowden Captain,
W.H.Balmer V/Captain.
