In this manner the marriage of A.V.Buttress to Miss Maude Harbottle at the
Congregational Church, Redcar on Saturday, 3rd June was announced and a
presentation of Dining-room furniture was made on Tuesday July 4
th
.
A.W.Foster returned home after his hospitalisation. Mrs Ainsley, wife of the
Chairman, was seriously ill. G.W.Liddle was reported to be ill and would be unable
to attend meetings for some time. Fred W.Dixon had met with an accident and was
confined to hospital for a short period.
Deaths:
Fred Dodds. W.Tattersall, founder member and father of the V/Chairman.
Alfred. (Tich) O'Dare following a road accident.
Basil Udall following injuries received in an explosion at I.C.I.
A.J. (Arthur) Young, a V/President who had been a member since the Club's
inception. He had a sunny, cheerful personality and. he passed that quality
on to all with whom he ccme into contact. Many would start by laughing at
him which he did not mind but it would, not be long before they were
laughing with him. As his lasting memory we will never forget his inimitable
tales, well told. To mention just two of the many:
That gem of the first water - how he described Blakiston's first climb up
Roseberry Topping on a motorbike and how he pulled the Nation's leg over
the Loch Ness Monster.
NEW MEMBERS ELECTED - 49 including S.H.Shuker, Alec Peel, Mrs J.Pugh, Harry
Wilson, S.Forbes, W.Cooper, Miss E.Salmon.
As a. result of the Car Race at Saltbum 10 members were elected including Sir
Ronald Gunter Bart., E.J.Moor, R.Steavenson, A.H.Hutchinson, J.Cleasby, G.Ross,
S.Tate, F.H.Ambling, J.K.Howard Hall. . . .
On Monday, 29th May a PRESENTATION TO MR T.A.HANSON. Assistant Secy.
and Editor of the Club Journal to mark the occasion of his marriage in 1955, was
made by W.Ryan.

DANCES. Two Dances were organised, one in the Dorman Hall on Feb.7th and the
other in the Linthorpe Assembly Booms on Nov.7th. In the February event a
competition for the Best-Dressed Head of Hair in conjunction with the Hairdressing
Assn. was organised and in addition the first 50 ladies attending had their
photographs taken and were presented with a copy of same. It was reported that
there was a loss of £7 on this.
The Town Hall was booked for the 7th Nov. and the Assembly Rooms for 3rd
Jan.(1935) for the New Year Revel. Jack Marwood's Orchestra played at both these
functions.
ANNUAL BALL: It is apparent that these dates were reversed, the Annual Ball being
held in the Town Hall on 3rd Jan.1935 which was attended by 362 guests and the
one in the Linthorpe Assembly Rooms on Wednesday, Nov.7th.
A falling-off in the attendance at the Tuesday Night Whist Drives was reported and it
was decided to arrange a Dance on the same night from 9 pm to 11 pm. This was
subsequently cancelled and a Ladies Night was organised in which lady members
