Death of Jim Guthrie. Jim Guthrie of Hawick who had first demonstrated the art of
"sliding" the corners on Saltburn Sands and who had finished 2nd in the 1927 Senior
T.T.Bace and was a member of the Middlesbrough Club winning team met with a
fatal accident whilst competing in Germany. A memorial scheme was promoted by
the "MOTORCYCLE". A donation of 10/0d was made to same and an appeal made
to members for donations.
Coronation of King George VI. The outside of the Club premises, were decorated
and each member received a free drink with which to toast Their Majesties.
Donations to Charities. The following were made:-
National Safety First Assn: - one guinea. North Ormesby Hospital - £1.6.0d.
Treloar Cripples Hospital - 10/6d. Earl Haig Poppy Day Fund - £2.12.0d.
Coronation Day Emblen Collection - 10/6d.
A.V.Buttress was appointed Transport Officer by the Poppy Day Collection
Committee and members took an active part in providing the necessary transport.
Teesside Safety First Council. T.A.Hanson was appointed to represent the Club.
Club Badges. Agreed to purchase 25.
Resignation of Typist and Stewardess. In view of her forthcoming marriage Miss
V.Dearlove, Typist, resigned and was given a wedding present. She was replaced
by Mrs V.Blackburn and subsequently by Miss E.Scarrow.
The Stewardess, Mrs A.Coley, resigned in September and Mrs I. Worth was
appointed in her place and subsequently Mrs F.E.Yates.
Motorclub Journal. Was regularly published each month and the Editor, T.A.Hanson,
was congratulated for his untiring efforts.
Limitation of Membership. It was agreed to submit to the next A.G.M. a resolution to
alter Rule 5 - "No application shall be considered from a lady unless she falls within
the following categories:-
1. The wife or daughter of a member.
2. Is in possession of a driving licence and regularly drives a car or a
motorcycle.
3. Has attended and is taking an active part in any of the social or sporting
functions organised by the Club.
New Members. elected during the year - 70.
Honorariums to the Hon.Sec; Hon. Treasurer and Assis.Hon.Sec. of £60, £2.10.0d
and £7.10.0d respectively, were approved.
SOCIAL
Following the creation of the Associate Membership section Social Runs were made
to the Lake District, Kirby Lonsdale, Bamborough Castle, Rosedale and a Church
Parade at Carlton-in-Cleveland.
