SOCIAL
Runs were made to the Wainstones, 2 Potholing expeditions with the Stockton Club
to the Lake District and twice to the Lake District by the Bergensteiners (a group of
members who were interested in Fell Walking and Rock Climbing).
The popular weekly Whist Drive & Dance continued.
Basque Childrens Party. Civil War was taking place in Spain. A number of children
who were evacuated to this country were entertained and then gave a Concert on
Spanish lines.
The Annual Ball was held in the Linthorpe Assembly Boons on 30th Dec. Over 200
guests attended including Their Worships the Mayor & Mayoress of Middlesbrough,
Councillor Mr & Mrs W.E.Price (Coun.Price was for many years a member of the
Club and the donor of the Price Trophy. He was the man behind the Cleveland
Precision Motorcycle - see Part 1 of the History - introducing Freddy Dixon to the
T.T.) Jack Marwood's Band played for Dancing. Catering was by R.Spark & Sons
and Johnson & Chadwick. Price of tickets was 6/0d.
Visits wore received from the N.A.L.G.O. and Commercial Travellers.
A complaint about Lady Members monopolising stools in front of the Bar was
considered as also was a request by them for permission to obtain a dartboard. It
was considered ridiculous to have 2 dartboards in the Club, one for either sex. A
dartboard was subsequently presented to the Club by lady members and accepted.
The Motorclub Journal was published each month under the editorship of
T.A.Hanson.
Cricket Section. A Cricket Section was formed and a donation was made from Club
Funds towards the purchase of the necessary gear. Harry Wilson was appointed
Secretary. Ten matches were played, the Section winning six and losing four. The
Committee was W.Oliver, C.L.Hodgson, R.Shuker, L.Raby, W.Tattersall, G.Bensley,
W.Clare, F.H.Wilson. Harry Wilson carried his bat for 51 in one match, Bill Proctor
39, E.Birkett 33, Sam Brown 32 and had a very useful innings. Lance Raby took 8
wickets for 10 runs at Newton and Harry Hewlett 7 for 8 against Uptons.
An all-in Polo Match versus the Middlesbrough Rugby Club in the Middlesbrough
Baths was won by the Motor Club.
The Annual Football Match against the High School Old Boys on Boxing Day was a
draw. As a result of this the sum of £1 was forwarded to the local Nursing Assn. and
was augmented by 15/0d by the Dorman Long United Athletic Club, being their fee
for the use of the ground.
