Majority of Hospitals Are Affiliated With Systems in 15 of 20 MSAs
• More than half of hospitals in 15 out of the
20 selected metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs)
were affiliated with integrated systems
in 2012; this share in Cleveland approached 97%
• Although the shares of hospitals in San Diego
(65.2%) and San Francisco (81.8%) that were tied
to systems were well above half, just 34.4% of
facilities in Los Angeles were in systems in 2012.

Atlanta Hospital Share Tied to Integrated Systems Continues Steady Growth
• The number and share of Atlanta hospitals
affiliated with integrated systems rose annually
from 2007 to 2012. The number of system-tied
hospitals climbed by two-thirds over this time.
• By 2012, nearly three out of every five Atlanta
hospitals were affiliated with integrated
systems, with much of this growth coming
from the addition of another system in 2010.
