• Allina Hospitals and Clinics was named
one of 32 Pioneer accountable care
organizations (ACOs) to participate in the
pilot program conducted by the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

• By leveraging its existing infrastructure (Allina
already had ties with 16 hospitals and 50
medical groups, among other providers), the
Allina Medicare ACO will work to coordinate
care for its patients and aim to reduce costs.

Occupancy Rates Fall at Majority of Profiled Integrated Systems
• For 12 of the 20 integrated systems profiled,
mean occupancy fell between 2010 and 2011;
moreover, occupancy rates dropped in 13 of
the MSAs where these systems were located.
• This drop in occupancy was most substantial
for Temple University Health System. Between
2010 and 2011, occupancy at Temple facilities
declined to 68.8% from 81.5% the year prior.
