T.T.Races. A Club team consisting of F.W.Dixon, R.F.Parkinson, James Guthrie
was entered and they won the Club team prize in the Senior Race, Guthrie being
2nd, Dixon 6th and Parkinson 15th. (A framed record of this including photos of the
riders hangs in the Club's Headquarters.) Subsequently W.Ryan referred to the
honour of winning this and moved that the replica when received should have a
permanent place on the table at all Committee Meetings and public functions as an
inspiration to go forward to greater triumphs. W.Ryan continued that he did not think
the Club could win anything to be more desired than a Replica of the T.T.Trophy and
the Club were indebted to the Secretary for this.
Agreed to make arrangements for 4 Pie Suppers (Oct.20, Jan.4, Feb.15, Mch.21,
1928).
Annual Ball. Joe Hurst's Orchestra was engaged plus a small Supper Orchestra for 3
guineas and the offer of George Buck to decorate the Hall for £40 was accepted, Mrs
Smith to cater at 5/6d per head, tickets to be 10/6d. Two grand pianos were hired at
a cost of 7 guineas. An extension until 3 a.m. had been obtained by the
Hon.Solicitor, Harold Darcy. 25% of the profits to be handed to Charity. M/C's were
A.W.Foster, H.Darcy, A.J.D.Black and E.F.Parkinson.
The Hon,Sec. reported that the question of drink at the Dances was becoming a
matter of grave concern. Certain people attended only because there were facilities
for drinking after hours and two Stewards were appointed to control matters and
given plenary powers, the caterers being advised that their instructions must be
obeyed without question.
Profit on the Annual Ball was reported to be £40 and as 25% was to go to Charity in
respect of the extension until 3 a.m. it was agreed to divide £20 as follows:- £8 each
to the N.E.Infirmary and N.O.Hospital and £4 to the Nurses' Home.
Hon.Sec. was appointed on a sub-committee to revise the rules of the Yorkshire
Centre.
The Chairman, Alec Thomson, having returned following his accident, several
members of the subsequent committee meeting spoke of their delight in seeing him
back.
A guest at the Pie Supper having had his hat stolen, he was subsequently paid the
sum of 5/0d.
New Year Party. Thls took the form of a Pie Supper, Whist Drive & Dance. The offer
of Messrs Merediths to supply the meal at a cost of 2/5d per head was accepted.
Tickets 5/0d.
Decided to have a Committee Dinner. This subsequently took place at the Coatham
Hotel, Redcar on January 11th 1928. Entertainment consisted of a small Orchestra
and Will Penketh - tickets 6/6d.
Football Club paid a dividend of 15%.
