During the counting of votes the prizes won by the Middlesbrough No.1 Team in the
Centre Team Trial were presented and an opportunity taken to wish godspeed to
T.W.(Tommy) Robinson who was leaving for Canada.
At the first meeting of the Committee R.H.Richardson was elected Chairman.
RICHMOND MEET. A letter from the Mayor of Richmond stated that the citizens of
the Town did not look with favour upon the event being held on a Good Friday and it
was agreed to accede to the request and the event was abandoned. Subsequently
reported that the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of Richmond had written stating that
there was a definite desire that the Meet be continued and offering the use of two
fields for the Gymkhana and it was decided to cancel the Minute abandoning the
Meet.
The Billingham (Synthonia) M.G. supported the Meet.
At the Meet a collection amounted to £31.5.0d, Entry Fees to £2.l8.0d. Of this 15
guineas were given to the Mayor of Richmond who was asked to send 2½ guineas
each to the Darlington General Hospital and the St.John Ambulance Brigade.
CAR PARKING. Our request reported in 1928 for Car Parking facilities in the Town.
A letter from the Town Clerk stated that the request would come before the
appropriate Committee. Reported that two schemes had been submitted to the
Council for parking places. A letter from the Town Clerk stating that the matter had
been referred to a special committee .
In September - A sub-committee was appointed to wait on the Council committee
dealing with the matter:- A.W.Foster, W.Ryan, R.W.Richardson and A.V.Buttress.
In December - A letter was read from the Town Clerk stating that the question of
parking spaces was to be considered by a special meeting of the Licensing
Committee who were to meet at an early date.
HOSPITAL INSURANCE SCHEME. Number of members covered reported to be
380 and the Brokers enquired if the scheme induced riders to join the Club. Replied
that the Scheme was certainly an attraction to members but it was doubtful whether
it brought members into the Club.
W.A.Porter having met with an accident before his subscription had been paid, the
Brokers agreed to make an ex-gratia payment of 5 guineas to the Hospital
concerned. This Scheme was attracting interest in headquarters and the A.C.U. were
to make a national scheme on the same lines. Total number of members covered
under scheme was 553 and an additional premium of £6.10.0d was due.
NATIONAL SAFETY FIRST COUNCIL. Requested the Committee to give serious
consideration to the formation of a local branch. In a letter the Town Clerk
announced that should the local Council be formed nothing would be forthcoming
from the Town Council.
