Blackburn Cup Handicap Trial- - W.Creasor.
Announced that there would be at least 6 riders from the Club competing in the
Leeds £200 trials and it was decided to enter 2 teams fort this at a cost of 7/6d per
team. .
The Inter-Club Scramble between Darlington and Middlesbrough, the first leg of
which had been won By Darlington, was held in November and was won by
Middlesbrough who were to hold the trophy for 6 months. ...
Saltburn Speed Trials: Were held on Saturday, July 5th. The programme consisted
of three 20-mile championship races, one 20-mile club members championship race,
a 50-mile handicap race. The manufacturers having decided not to support this class
of event it was agreed to shorten the number of races and offer increased cash
award to the winners. A total entry of 46 machines, was received.
The 350 c.c. 20-mile Yorkshire Championship was won by R.F.Parkinson, speed
58.15 m.p.h. up to 600 c.c. - C.R:Sanderson, speed 63.6 m.p.h who also won the
20-mile championship up to 1000 c.c. and.his speed was 62.66. m.p.h. The 20-mile
Club Members Handicap .race for the G.H.Blackburn Cup was won by
Reg.Harkness at a speed of 58.34 m.p.h. and the 50-mile open handicap race was
won by. J.H.Carr, Brough Superior, speed 66.8 m.p.h. which was the fastest speed
for a lap race recorded at Saltburn at that date The offer of J.Hudson & Sons to
undertake roping etc. of the course .for £24.10.0d was accepted. Messrs Binns offer
to instal a Marconi Public Address system for the sun of £7.10.0d was accepted after
a demonstration had been made but it was found to be entirely unsatisfactory on the
day and the Club refused to pay for same.
A lorry with two men was hired for transport work for the sum of £3. Programmes
were sold on a commission basis which did not realise the results anticipated.
A profit of £35 was announced.
During the year members competed in other open and closed competitions.
C.T.Barker, Jack Gash and Basil Udall won prizes in the Darlington Club events and
E.W.Kendrew won the Charlie Bell award in a Hull Club event. R.F.Parkinson won
several sand events at Southport.
Reported that after a period in which it seemed that Reliability Trial Riding had
ceased to occupy its place in the sporting activities of the Club, there appeared to be
a return to popularity of this type of event and it was considered necessary to adjust
our ideas and the rules for the coming year.
The typist applied for an increase of wages and she was granted 1/0d per week
extra.
Social Functions. Thursday, Oct.23rd. Thursday, Jan.17th and Feb.11th (1951) were
booked at the Linthorpe Assembly Rooms and J.Hurst's Band was engaged for
these Dances.
