which he had refuted and that T.Creasor who finished 6th had also stopped in a non-
stop section and the necessary marks were deducted which displaced him from the

position. G.T.Buttress was interviewed at the next meeting and after a long
discussion in which the desire to avoid creating a precedent was a predominant
feature, the results were confirmed.
SALTBURN SPEED TRIALS. Held on Sat, 13
th
July. The weather was perfect and
the sands in excellent condition. The Committee decided as an experiment to
shorten the course from 2 miles to 1 mile per lap in an effort to make it more
interesting for spectators. Fastest time of the day was made by R.W.Storey on a
Brough Superior with a speed of 100.76 m.p.h. The championships, 20 miles, 250
c.c. no finishers, 550 c.c. A.W.Armstrong, who completed more than one half of the
course with one half of his handlebar hanging loose, 500 c.c. Charlie Barrett, 1000
c.c. C.R.Sanderson. 10 mile passenger machine handicap, A.W.Armstrong, 10 mile
club members handicap for Blackburn Memorial Cup, Charlie Barrett. In the 50 mile
handicap race for the Gold Cup there were 33 entries, Charlie Barrett on his Douglas
put up a wonderful performance but after overhauling rider after rider his throttle
jammed open and he was compelled to let the machine run into the sea. The winner
was R.C.Pick on a Velocette with a speed of 46.15 m.p.h.
RIDERS IN OTHER CLUBS' EVENTS. G.H.Allen obtained a Gold Medal in the
Leeds ;£200 Trial and made the Best Amateur Sidecar Performance in the Travers
Open Trial.
MEMBERSHIP. Approaching the 400 mark and new members elected were:- 179
including
J. Seaman, G.B.Hickson, G.E.Hudson, Dr.S.Belas, Cecil Ridley, W.J.Whittingham,
Tom Wilson, Jack Yellow, S.O'Dare, J.Gharlton, J.Hartas, W.Polton (Evening
Gazette) – A.Bunting, C.N.Sadler, Colin Salmon, Reg.Harkness, Jack Ormston, Miss
M.Harbottle (Mrs A.V.Buttress), Ted Blakeway, Ralph Bradley, Percy Mushens, Alan
Clark, E.F.Hodgson, Mrs McMaster and David Williams.
MARRIAGE OF F.C.BARKER, took place on 28th August. (He had won the Gjers
Cup 3 tines).
CAR PARKING IN THE TOWN. Two schemes were submitted to the Town Council
in February. These were considered by the Watch Committee but nothing was done
in the matter. With the approach of Winter the Watch Committee were again
approached and a deputation from the Club attended a Watch Committee meeting in
respect of this, following which it was reported that there was little hope of any official
places being established. The Chief Constable however said that no action would
be taken in respect of cars parked in certain side streets for short periods!!!
