competitor. No outside assistance to be allowed. Penalty disqualification, and should
a competitor enter the enclosure for any purpose during the Race he would be
deemed to have retired.
Correspondence respecting the disqualification of the winner of the 50-mile handicap
at Saltburn was considered. (See later).
Amateur Road Race. - Secretary to interview R,F.Parkinson respecting same.
Membership. - Reported that on 30th April the membership totalled 233.
The Secretary was instructed to write to the Borough Engineer complaining of
the state of Acklam Road and Orchard Road.
Gjers Trial. - At the request of the President, John Gjers, an effort was made to
organise this as a 2-day event but only one entry was received and it was
decided to cancel same, This was later run as a one-day event.
Pointed out that the Club would have been in existence 21 years in 1926 and, it
was decided to obtain a list of vacant dates for the Town Hall in order to
celebrate the occasion.
Annual Ball. The offer of Joe Hurst of the sum of £37.16,0d was accepted and it
was decided to apply for an extension 'til 3 a.m. The tender of Cecil Ridley for
special lighting at the cost of £15 was accepted. Menu 3/6d per head, tickets
10/6d, Times 8-30 to 2-30 and to hire two pianos for the Dance and to ask the
Musical Director to play music during Supper.
Linthorpe Assembly Rooms were booked for a New Year Party.
Reported that the matter of the Centre Secretary's suspension had not been settled.
Congratulations to the Chairman, A.J.Young, and Good Wishes on the occasion of
his marriage.
A discussion took place on the attitude of the N.E.C.C. to Reliability Trials and
decided to take no action at that time.
Hon.Sec. was asked to approach the Press with reference to a note re. the speed
and noise of machines on Ltnthorpe Road and within the approaches of the Town.
Resignation of the President. A letter from John Gjers resigning the presidency of the
Club. (He had been cited in a divorce case). H.S.Williams, F.W.Dixon and
A.J.Young were appointed to interview him and ask him to reconsider the matter.
They reported that they had been successful in persuading him to stand as President
next year, it being the Majority Year, but he wished to be relieved of the position at
the end of that term.
Yorkshire Centre A.C.U. Reference is made to the suspension of the Centre
Secretary, Alec Dovenor in respect of a £200 Yorkshire Post Trial which Mr Dovenor
had announced as an Open (National) event without apparent A.C.U. permit and
delegates were instructed to use their discretion respecting the position created but
not to support any attempt to break with the A.C.U. The formation of a Northern
