At a meeting of the Committee on March 1st C.J, (Charlie) Halliman was elected
Hon. Ambulanceman to the Club and it is only fair to say that he served in that
capacity faithfully for many years and is still an honorary member
of the Club
today (1972).
T.H.Blackburn. - Subscription list was opened for the benefit of Tommy
Blackburn who had met with an accident whilst returning from a Hill Climb at
Scarborough.
50-Miles Trial. - A Cup presented by W,Ryan and still being competed for today,
plus the New Hudson Cup to be won outright.
Gymkhana and Football Match. - Arranged to be held at Darlington.
Decided to ask the Yorkshire Centre to start their meetings earlier so that
delegates could get home the same night.
Decided that the sum of £25 be given towards the riders' expenses in the
Amateur Road Race and that a Gymkhana be organised to assist in the
defraying of this expense and it was subsequently agreed that C,N,Sadler be the
Club's nominee.
Saltburn Speed Trials. - The offer of J, Hudson & Sons of Saltburn of £21 to rope
the course was accepted. Also decided to have an official dinner after the event
and that chief officials be given complimentary tickets.
Dr. D,J,F,O'Flanaghan presented a Cup, same size and proportions as the other
3, for a 20-mile Championship Race. The winners of the Championships were:
250cc. G.Rennard, 350cc. G.Rennard, 600cc. W,Wilkinson. 1000cc
George Grinton. Fastest time of the day was made by George Grinton,
Harley-Davison, on the Flying Kilo at 92.7 m.p.h.
Annual Ball. - At the request of the Y.M.C.A. and other organisations the
Committee decided to change the date of the Ball as it clashed with the Carnival
Week, being organised by the Y.M.C,A, Tickets 10/6d, J,Hurst's Band. Catering
by Mrs.E.Smith, decorations by Dickson & Benson. Lighting Harrison Bros. At
the request of one Committee man (F,Shepherd), no limelights be incorporated.
Winterschladens to apply for a Bar licence.
Smoking Concert & Presentation of Prizes fixed for Wednesday December 12th
at the Corporation Hotel. The winners of trophies were:
Scott Trial - W,Tattersall.
Wye Trial - H. (Cap)Armstrong.
50-miles Trial - A.V.Buttress.
Gjers Cup Trial - J.Gilchrist.
Ladies Prize - Miss Barker.
C.W.Smith Trial - H, (Cap)Armstrong. Sadler (Bowl) Fuel Consumption Trial
- G,Coverdale. John Gjers Trial - H.(Cap) Armstrong.
Also 2 Hill Climbs were held, fastest time of the day being made by
T.W.Denney and J,F.Dixon respectively.
NEW MEMBERS. 62 were elected and it was decided to issue a circular pointing
out the advantages of being a member, to be distributed to non-members.
