leaving a balance of £119.After Liabilities had been assessed the credit balance of
£101 showed an increase of £21 over 1922.
Mention was made of the showing of the Motorcycle film at: the Grand Electric
Theatre and a first Motorcycle Football match at the Richmond Meet, the opposition
being Darlington who were beaten by 2 goals to nil, Apparently the game had caught
on, numerous enquiries having been received from motor clubs, not only in this
country but as far distant as Bombay.
Many meetings between Darlington and Middlesbrough at Motorcycle Football,
Cricket, Football and Billiards took place and it is reported that Middlesbrough
remained undefeated. The Middlesbrough motorcycle Football Team were first
defeated in a match at York following which a considerable discussion took place as
to whether it was lawful for a man to dribble a ball between his foot and the machine.
The final event of the year was a Hill Climb at Yearby Bank where some very fine
riding was witnessed. H,L.Young of Sunderland riding 2¾ A.J,S, swept up the hill at
72.15 m.p.h. winning all but the 1000 cc. class. Fastest time of the day was again
made by Frank Dixon with a speed of 79.32 m.p.h.
The Club was represented at almost every important event in the British Isles and on
the Continent by F.W,Dixon who was successful in winning the first Sidecar T.T,
Race on a Douglas, T,W.Denney being the passenger. He was also 3rd in the Senior
T.T,Race, 1st in the Belgian Grand Prix and 3rd in the 350 French Grand Prix. He
also had numerous successes at Brooklands including the 1000cc. B.M.C.R.C.
Championship and broke the British Flying Kilo record in France with a speed of
107.71 m.p.h.
Whilst C,N.Sadler, J,T.Jobborn, R.H.Fox, W.Marriott, C,Zealand and A.V.Buttress
were successful in Open Centre and other Club events.
The 4th Annual Ball was held in the Town Hall on Friday, November 21st, about 300
being present. The universal opinion was - "Better than ever".
